The construction site of the Kela photovoltaic power station of the water-solar hybrid project

On the Zhalatosang Mountain in Kola Township, Yajiang County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, at an altitude of 4,600 meters, more than 1,100 builders braved the severe cold and lack of oxygen to continuously work on the construction front line of the Kola Photovoltaic Power Station.

The "water-solar hybrid" project is located in the area between 4,000 meters and 4,600 meters above sea level on the Western Sichuan Plateau. It has an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts and a construction area of over 16 square kilometers, which is equivalent to the size of more than 2,000 standard football fields. The project consists of more than 2 million photovoltaic modules and more than 5,000 inverters, with nearly 50,000 tons of steel used for the supports.

The oxygen content on the construction site is only 50% of that in plain areas, but the ultraviolet radiation is 90% higher. During the construction period, it was necessary to "resist" strong winds with instantaneous wind strength of level 8 to level 9 from time to time, and the effective construction time was continuously compressed. Under such harsh weather conditions, workers gritted their teeth and overcame it, seizing the construction window period.
